Hi, I'm blogging today to talk about the results of American Idol. So, really,
Did David Cook Deserve The Win?
To be honest with you, I'm not a fan of either one but I know in myself that I wanted Archuleta to win. Again, in all honesty, I do not hate David Cook. I think he's a teriffic performer with a nice voice. He has that rock star capability but he can hit some of the higher notes. I can't deny that, and I can't take that away from him.
I have a bit of a problem with his voice though. I really think he sound like Lifehouse's lead vocals, or maybe hat's just me. I hear a few bands with the same style. I'm not sure what I should call it, but it some kind of "making the throat rough", so when the voice comes out, it's a bit modified.
That's not going to be by any chance a basis for my answer to the question/topic.
I truly believed after watching the top three performance night that Cook would win the title. There was no doubt he was the best performer, and he outmatched the guy with the same name as his. All Cook had to do was ride his momentum and Archuleta would have been done for.
All my beliefs changed after the final performance night.
D.A. came out on stage hungrier than D.C. It didn't show if you just watched them. A balladeer doesn't have the same charisma as a rock star.
If you just watched the Davids, it would show that DC wanted it so much more. DA was just a small guy with a good voice, nothing more. He would raise his hands a bit, and that was all. You can't "feel" Archuleta.
If you listened to them, it would be a different story. David Archuleta, in all his 3 songs was at his best. It's as if the top 3 performance night was so long ago. DA showed up. He showed to the world what an American Idol is supposed to be like. Talented. Determined. Driven. He showed us his best. That's what the show is about.
To be fair with David Cook, I think he's still the better David in terms of talent at this point in time. DA may be young, but that won't cut it.
The better David in the finals?
Archuleta.
David Cook, no matter how teriffic he is, didn't flash before our eyes how magnificent he can be. I heard it from him. He didn't want to do something he's already done before. It's nice to hear that from him. He wanted to try something new. At the finals. That wouldn't work. And it didn't. Really. American Idol is about finding a star, according to Simon, and in the finals, DC didn't shine very well. What the people wanted to see is not a new David Cook. People wanted to see David Cook at his finest, rockin'! I expected him to bring the house down. Instead, he sang a weak song to end his three chances. Bad song choice. It kept us from seeing the David Cook we wanted to see.
Archuleta gave us possibly his best night, while Cook tried a song or two that hindered his magnificent form from landing into our eyes and ears.
What DA did was he improved his style and gave it to the audience. It was a very good performance, excellent actually. He wanted to make sure he'd be the American Idol by doing his best in his style.
DC didn't show up. If there was a fourth song, maybe he'd do Soulja Boy's "Crank That".
For me, Cook did deserve the win, but he doesn't deserve to be called better than Archuleta. While it shows, Cook didn't beat Archie in the finals.
Good thing, when Cook goes on to record songs, he won't be deciding on the songs he'll do. We won't hear him rap. So, it was OK, I guess.
